Window’s Scam

You log into MSN or Google and start a search for something. You click on the first or second search result. Not finding specifically what your looking for, you try a few more of the search results. Suddenly this screen pops up.

Don’t worry we are here to help.

  • Don’t Panic – The entire point of this scam is to cause panic. Keep calm and know nothing has happened to your computer. They are using fear to get you to call the number listed.
  • DON’T CALL THE PHONE NUMBER – These scams give you a number that goes directly to the people trying to scam you. They want you to call the number. T they will ask for one of two things. The first option, they will tell you your windows is out of date and you need to renew. They will ask for your credit card information. DON’T GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. The second option they will use, telling you Windows is out of date on your computer and they need access to your computer to update your system. DON’T GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER.
  • Close out each window that has opened using the X in the top right corner of every window.

You can also close the Google Window or Microsoft Edge window by clicking the X in the far top right of the screen as well. This will close everything out. When you re-open a browser window with Google or Microsoft Edge. It will ask you if you wish to restore the last page that was open. Click on NO and continue your internet search.
